The Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja, Nigeria serves as the major referral centre for primary and secondary health centres in Kogi state and the neighbouring states. The Centre is a 300bed capacity hospital out of which 55 are Paediatric. Of these, the EPU has 10 bed spaces, the SCBU has 18 bed spaces, the PMW has 15 bed spaces and the PSU has 12 bed spaces.

Departmental Units and Services
The Department of Paediatrics provides curative and preventive care to children under 15 years of age through five principal units namely:
The Emergency Paediatric Unit (EPU)
This unit attends to patients coming in with evidence of acute illnesses including febrile seizures, respiratory distress and altered consciousness. Also, patients referred for evaluation from another facility or unit in the hospital and patients with chronic conditions requiring hospital admissions are also seen at the EPU.
The Paediatric Medical Ward (PMW)
This unit attends to patients transferred from the EPU and patients with chronic conditions requiring hospital admissions may be admitted directly into the PMW.
The Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU)
This unit attends to all children ≤ 28 days and those referred for evaluation from another health care facility or unit in the hospital.
The Paediatric Surgical Unit (PSU)
This unit attends to surgical patients transferred from the EPU and patients with surgical conditions requiring hospital admissions may be admitted directly into the PSU.
The Paediatric Outpatient Department (POPD) and the associated immunization clinic
This is where the various specialist clinics are. Also, those patients managed and discharged are followed up here too.
The Dietetics/Nutrition Unit
Patients requiring nutritional counselling and treatment are seen here.
The Department also provides care to patients in related specialties such as the Obstetrics and Gynaecology (Resuscitation of newborns in the Labour room and Obstetrics Theatre), management of Paediatric Surgical and sub-specialty patients in the Paediatric Surgical ward.

Dr. Ajetomobi Ajayi is a good manager of resources, a seasoned teacher and Paediatrician who is very experienced and skilled with more than 12 years of postgraduate experience in child health. Dr. Ajetomobi places strong emphasis on accuracy and paying attention to fine details in guaranteeing exemplary care to every patient.
