The Department of Surgery was one of the pioneer Departments of the hospital at its inception. Since then, it has undergone several structural modifications over the years with some departments such as the departments of Orthopedics and the department of otorhinolaryngology being carved out of it.

Surgery department is at the forefront of delivering excellent patient surgical care, providing surgical education and training, and developing groundbreaking research.

Currently, the department is subdivided into various subunits based on the different subspecialties.
