Overview of the NHIS Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja
Introduction
National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), formerly known as the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) is a corporate body established under the NHIA Act 2022 by the Federal Government of Nigeria to provide access to quality and affordable healthcare for all Nigerians.
The NHIA was created to exclusively cater for clients under the formal and non-formal Health Insurance Scheme. To achieve the aim of quality care in a dynamic Health Insurance industry, the Hospital inaugurated a NHIS committee about 15 years ago.
Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja is one of the accredited healthcare providers by the NHIA for the provision of primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare services. The NHIA unit in the hospital acts as an intermediary between the NHIA enrollees, health maintenance organizations (HMOs) and the different service points within the hospital.
Composition of NHIA Office at FMC, Lokoja
- The NHIA programme in FMC, Lokoja, is managed through a committee, headed by the Committee Chairman, Dr. Femi Mark, while the committee secretary is also the NHIA Desk Officer, Mr. Salihu Idris Y. The committee Chairman reports directly to the Medical Director, Dr. Olatunde Oladeji Alabi.
The NHIA office has 2 major units: the Claims unit and the Customer care unit.
