About Dr Olatunde O. Alabi

Dr. Olatunde Oladeji Alabi was born in Hadeija, in the present day Jigawa State on the 5th of March, 1966. He is the second of six children. He had his primary education at the St. Barnabas Primary School, Ilorin in the year 1970 to 1976. He then proceeded to Government Secondary School, Ilorin where he acquired his secondary school certificate in 1981. He also attended the School of Basic Studies, Kwara State College of Technology in year 1981 to 1983. He gained admission into the University of Ilorin, Kwara State to study medicine in 1984. After graduation in 1990 with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree, he proceeded to have his internship training at the General Hospital, Bida, Niger State in the year 1990 to 1991.

His NYSC was done in Anambra State where he had his primary assignment at the Aguata Health Centre in Aguata L.G.A of Anambra State. After completing the mandatory service to the Nation in 1992, he then joined the services of Awoā€omamma community Hospital, Oru East Local Government, Imo State and was there until year 1995. He established his own private medical practice in the same community in 1995, which was active till 2001.

After folding the private practice, he enrolled for Postgraduate Medical training in the year 2001 after passing the primary fellowship examination in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. His training was at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital where he took up the position of a junior registrar. He passed his Part I fellowship examination in 2005 and was promoted to the position of Senior registrar. In March 2007, he passed his Part II fellowship examination and was awarded the fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

He was appointed as a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja on 1st of August, 2007. He served Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja in various capacity viz: Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Head of Clinical Services from August 2012 to November 2015 and Acting Medical Director from November 09, 2015. He was appointed the substantive Medical Director for the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja in June 2017.

Dr. Olatunde Alabi was re-appointed as the medical director of Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja for a second term in office by President Muhammed Buhari, GCFR on the 15th of June 2021.

He became the pioneer Chief Medical Director of the Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja after the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja was upgraded to a teaching hospital status on the 27th February 2023 and will work in synergy with the Federal University Lokoja in the training of medical students (Medical doctors, Nursing, medical laboratory scientist, pharmacist, physiotherapy, etc.)

Dr. Olatunde Alabi is a resource person to the West African College of Surgeons on Health Management and Ethics for Trainee and Practicing Surgeons in the West African Subā€region. He has had the privilege of attending various courses in his capacity as a clinician and an administrator, one of which is the course on Health Planning and Management certified by both the Federal Ministry of Health and the University of Ilorin in 2011.  Dr. Olatunde Alabi has a number of publications to his name and has also helped in supervising postgraduate medical residency programme and dissertation leading to the award of fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons

He helped in authoring the training manual in Health Management and Ethics titled: “A Primer on Health Services management and Medical Ethics for Surgeons”.

Dr. Olatunde Oladeji is a lover of sports especially football. He also enjoys listening to old school music (both foreign and African genre). He is happily married to Dr. (Mrs.) Olayinka Alabi, a university lecturer, with children.
